There are no small roles, only small actors. SHINee’s Choi Min-ho is an example of a talented actor who can make any role memorable, regardless if it is just a cameo or a guest appearance.
Here are some of SHINee Minho’s memorable roles:
‘Canola’ (2016)
Making his film debut alongside esteemed actors Youn Yuh-jung and Kim Go-eun is an accomplishment. Minho played the role of Han-yi, a charming boy-next-door Jeju Island local fascinated by Hye-ji, portrayed by Kim Go-eun. One notable scene was when he was riding a bike with Hye-ji while showing the breathtaking sights of the island, including the ocean, where several “haenyo” or female divers were gracefully floating like a moving painting. His innocence complemented Hye-ji’s mysterious and rebellious nature, adding depth to the artistic concept of the film.
‘Drinking Solo’ (2016)
The funniest cameo is one that crosses the line between real life with fiction. In this drama, Minho plays a bully to fellow SHINee member Key’s character. It was hilarious watching Key complain about K-pop star Minho. Key’s character, Kibum, got mad when he overheard a girl in his class praising Minho for his perfect looks and talent in dancing. He scolded her by saying she has low standards for liking Minho.
A flashback reveals the reason for his anger: they were classmates in high school, and he was bullied endlessly by Minho. For instance, Kibum was sleeping in the classroom chair when Minho kicked him to wake him up. He then demanded for him to dance for him because he was bored. Kibum reluctantly entertained him with “Tell Me” by Wonder Girls, “Sorry, Sorry” by Super Junior, and “Gee” by Girls’ Generation. Minho even encouraged their classmates to record Kibum. Coincidentally, Minho also made a cameo in the music video for “Gee.” Minho’s portrayal is so convincing that you can’t help but feel sorry for Kibum because the girl he likes has a crush on Minho, who tormented him in the past.

‘The Princess and the Matchmaker’ (2018)
In this historical romance film, Minho played the role of Seo Ga-yoon, the visually impaired younger brother of Seo Do-yoon, played by Lee Seung-gi. Minho’s growth as an actor was particularly evident in a pivotal scene where antagonists threatened him with a knife at his neck while positioned on top of a well. His helplessness and frustration pierced not just Do-yoon’s heart but the viewers. Again, Minho shone despite the limited time.
‘Yumi’s Cells’ (2021)
Reuniting with his “Canola” co-star, Kim Go-Eun, who plays the title role of Yumi, Minho’s interesting portrayal as U-gi made “Yumi’s Cells” truly exciting.
Who can forget that scene of Kim Go-eun and Lee Yu-bi running like triathlon athletes competing to have a date with their charming officemate Chae U-gi played by Choi Min-ho? The rollercoaster of emotions when he asked Yumi, “What’s your ideal type?” Only for her to realize —he wants to set her up with his friend for a blind date. When Yumi asked if he likes Ruby, he corrected her by saying, “The person I like is not a woman.”
The way his charisma and manners did not change even after revealing to Yumi that he was gay would make you wonder. Will Yumi overcome her feelings for him? She even dreamt of waking up next to a smiling and half-naked U-gi. He is too gorgeous, and being just friends with him seems unfair.
The versatile rapper, dancer, and songwriter debuted as a member of SHINee in 2008, and as an actor in 2010. Last year, he released “Call Back,” his first full-length solo album containing 10 tracks. This was followed by a two-night solo concert in South Korea.

On March 16, Minho is gifting his fans in the Philippines with “MEAN: of my FIRST” solo concert. Promoted by L-Squared Productions PH, the event will be held at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.
This marks his return to the country after a successful fan meeting in 2023.Tickets and more information are available through TicketNet.
PH Shawols, and Flamers, this is a night you absolutely don’t want to miss.
