WATCH: BOYNEXTDOOR will move through ‘Earth, Wind, and Fire’

BOYNEXTDOOR EARTH WIND AND FIRE

SEOUL—Sungho, Riwoo, Jaehyun, Taesan, Leehan, and Woonhak of BOYNEXTDOOR are moving heaven and earth in this otherworldly comeback. K-pop’s favorite Gen Z spirits just dropped the music video for their latest single, “Earth, Wind, and Fire.”

The track is part of their second EP, “How?,” which dropped today, April 15.

Written by members Jaehyun, Taesan and Woonhak, lead single “Earth, Wind, and Fire” is exactly like it sounds. It’s a fun mix of different elements, a feat the six members have mastered.

In this uniquely BOYNEXTDOOR performance, the Gen Z artists are eclectic in more ways than one. They brave the uncontrollable nature of the elements, thus the Earth, Wind and Fire, which mirrors the magic of first relationships.

The lead single “Earth, Wind, and Fire” portrays an overly confident protagonist, whose “sky wasn’t high enough,” grappling to conceal their anxious heart in the presence of a loved one. Like the uncontrollable nature of earth, wind, and fire, the frustrations that arise from a relationship that sometimes deviates from one’s expectations is authentically expressed in the track.

The sound and performance of “Earth, Wind & Fire” cleverly convey the protagonist’s fluctuating state of mind. In particular, the ‘sped-up’ section instantly catches listeners’ attention as the sextet expresses the protagonist’s frantic and anxious thoughts with accelerated vocals. The fast-paced performance, synchronized with a speedy tempo, also mirrors the protagonist’s emotional journey.
