K-pop group Stray Kids makes history as the first group to debut their first five charting albums at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Billboard’s announcement came after their latest mini album “ATE” debuted in first place for chart dated Aug. 3.
The achievement lists Stray Kids as an act, not a K-pop act or a fourth-generation K-pop group. It is huge for the group. It’s as if their song “Stray Kids” (“ATE”) prophesized this moment, “We’re gonna show the way / We made it on our own.”
The album joins the ranks of “Oddinary” and “Maxident” in 2022; and “5-Star” and “Rock-Star” in 2023. The same report says that “ATE” gained its top spot with 232,000 equivalent album units earned in the US. It is the largest for any K-pop album and the sixth-biggest debut for any album so far this year.
They match the record of another act, rapper DMX between 1998 to 2003, the report says. It took 21 years to match this existing record.
Billboard 200 is not the only chart Stray Kids is topping.
The group has been making the news lately for several reasons including their interactions with “Deadpool and Wolverine” stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The two Hollywood stars made a cameo on “ATE” title track “Chk Chk Boom.”
Stray Kids wrote “Slash” as part of the Original Sound Track of the movie.
The group is set to embark on their third world tour, “DominATE,” which they will kick off in Seoul on Aug. 24. They will bring the show to the Philippines on Nov. 23 at the Philippine Arena.
