One of its former name is wool flower because of its fuzzy look.  The film “Sound of Music” features a song titled, “Edelweiss”.  It contains the lyrics “Small and white/Clean and bright/You look happy to meet me”.

The flower signifies deep love and devotion. One of the popular stories surrounding the flower is the difficulty of its acquisition.   The flowers grow mostly on rocky places at about 1,800 to 3,000 meters altitude. It’s proof of how much he loved her.
