SM Entertainment, the talent agency of EXO, released an official statement on February 20 pertaining to the group’s future plans. This statement comes after Chen’s marriage announcement last month.
The statement reads that all members discussed his plans of marriage critically. It said that all of the “EXO members have previously suffered hardships of losing members in the group.”
EXO has nine members currently. They are Suho, Xiumin, Lay, D.O., Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, Sehun and Kai. Their former members were Kris, Tao and Luhan.
“The team, as a whole, relayed their wishes to continue with the current members without changes,” SM Entertainment stated. The agency said that they will respect the decision of the members. They repeated that there will be no changes in the number of members twice.
Some fans have called for Chen’s expulsion from the group after he announced his intention to get married. However, PH and International EXO-Ls were quick to defend the EXO member’s right to fall in love.
SM also stated that since several members are awaiting their mandatory military enlistment duties, the group will focus on solo and unit promotions.
“EXO will continue to promote actively as EXO, as soloists, and as unit groups in a variety of fields, repaying the fans for their love,” SM Entertainment stated.
