Neo Culture Technology, also known as NCT, is the second best-selling Kpop group in the last ten years. But because of NCT’s growing number of members, many new Kpop fans hesitate to stan the group. Read on to understand if they’re worth stanning. Who knows, they might grow on you!
Who is NCT?
NCT is unlike any Kpop group thanks to its infinite-members concept. As a brand, NCT is currently at 23 members, divided into four sub-units: NCT 127, the first unit to debut representing Seoul with nine active members; NCT Dream, the youth group; WayV, the Chinese group; and NCT U, the rotational sub-unit.
Confused? Think of them as clusters. Each of them is geared to appeal to specific audiences but, at the end of the day, unites under one title. NCT, in a sense, is similar in that they build sub-units to target specific countries and demographics.
Sounds interesting, right? As our welcome gift for entering Ncity, here are five out of the infinite reasons you should start stanning NCT.
Talent and visuals all in one!
The neos are a treat! Like their unconventional music, they are not afraid to try out unique styling and create trends. Many of the members are even voted as one of the most handsome Kpop artists. They’re so hot you’d need a firetruck.
But hey, they’re not just pretty faces. Subtle brag: they’ve once won a Daesang Award, the musical grand prize at the 31st Seoul Music Awards. They also won Rookie Of The Year in 2016 and what followed were back-to-back music show wins and consistent international charts.
They are, indeed, the biggest hit on the stage.
Be part of a one big happy family
NCT is literally a limitless Kpop group. The members are unlimited, and each of their sub-units is special in its own right, so if stanning all members is too overwhelming, then maybe you could find a home in one of its sub-units. As of 2022, their roster is the following: Johnny, Taeil, Taeyong, Yuta, Kun, Doyoumg, Ten, Jaehyun, Winwin, Jungwoo, Lucas(hiatus), Mark, Xiaojun, Hendery, Renjun, Haechan, Jeno, Jaemin, Yang Yang, Shotaro, Sungchan, Jisung.
Their fandom goes by many names — Czennies or Nctzens for general stans and fans of NCT 127, WayZenNi and Weishennie (unofficial) for WayV, and Dreamzen for NCT Dream. Although as chaotic as the neos at times, their collective love for the lads trumps all (inevitable) fan wars.
Exceptional music
NCT as a brand, as well as NCT 127, are both known for noise and experimental music, but they’re also versatile, especially since they have many sub-units. You’ll just find yourself dancing to EDM and hip-hop at some point, singing along to pop and R&B, and then crying over their ballads. It’s a rollercoaster ride in Ncity!
Group dynamic
If there is one thing to look forward to from SM groups, it is their family dynamic. We can’t help but coo in awe as we watch them grow together like blood relatives, getting increasingly successful in their musical pursuits, up to solo modeling and acting projects. We bet they’re great colleagues to have because of the number of food trucks each unit sends in support of another member’s solo schedule!
Such unparalleled bond manifests in their group chemistry, whether it be in their lively variety shows or on the live stage performances they light up.
They’re nice people
NCT has its philanthropic side. Do you know that Na Jaemin from NCT Dream was scouted doing charity work? Despite their success and busy schedules, NCT remains humble and gives back to the community. Taeyong, their leader, is also known to sponsor the education of some students from his alma mater.
Not only are they charitable and all-around kind, but they’re also outspoken when need be. They’re mindful of their mistakes when called out, listen to criticisms, and love their fans just as much as we love them.
Welcome To Ncity!
There’s more to love about NCT that is better experienced than read. If you’re willing to give them a chance, how about dropping by I-POP U 2022 to see NCT Dream and WayV on the lineup on October 21, 2022, at Smart Araneta Coliseum. The event is presented by DNM Entertainment. Tickets are still available TicketNet outlets or TicketNet Online. To hear their live singing and performances might just drag you into the rabbit hole that is Neo City.
Welcome to Ncity, future Czennie!
