Ji Chang-wook’s agency refutes second fan event in Philippines

The agency of South Korean Ji Chang-wook, Glorious Entertainment, issued a statement denying a fan signing event in Iloilo.

They uploaded a statement today.

NOTICE

Hello. This is Glorious Entertainment.

We would like to inform you regarding false information that has been spreading regarding the 2022 Ji Chang Wook Fan Meeting Tour being held in the Philippines, specifically the “CLEO L. DIMAYUGA” fan signing event in Iloilo.

Any Event that is not notified by the official ticket seller and promoter (BENCH), including the contents of the ‘CLEO L. DIMAYUGA’ fan signing event uploaded on Facebook, will NOT be held.

We hope that you take this into close consideration to avoid the purchase of any counterfeit tickets that are being sold by unauthorized sellers.

We have reported the situation and are closely monitoring the situation actively to ensure no one is affected.

Thank you.

False claims

The event came after a certain Cleigh Di posted in her now deactivated Facebook page claiming that Ji Chang-wook will have a fan signing on Nov. 8.  When fans called it scam, she posted another statement standing by her initial claims.

She wrote on her FB page:

To those who were circulating that Ji Chang-Wook visit in iloilo is a scam, I would like to correct you that it is not a scam.

Originally, Ji has no schedule in Iloilo — however I encouraged him to come and visit my City Iloilo — and with my proposal the Management and Board of Glorious entertainment agreed. It’s a side trip visit as his original fan meet is in Manila.

Glorious, is working out right now to correct the mix reactions of people. I am initially posting this authorization that Glorious given to me, as a proof that I am an authorized representative for JCW promotions in the Philippines.

Please stop bashing if you do not have the legit source. This is a first hand informations directly to me as the representative of Glorious for this Iloilo trip.

If you have doubts, don’t buy the ticket (not yet ready for selling) and wait for further notice. It was my overwhelming post that I wanted to get the hype of the people, and see how many will be the audience so we can adjust the time of the event.

For the record, I have not scammed and fraud people. I been in an Immigration business world wide and dealt with marketing and promotions of Canadian immigration programs and to the record I have an outstanding performance in this business.

Excuses

She further gave excuses about the announcement.

Kindly, be patient for the official announcement of the Management, it’s Sunday today and the person for social media is out for now.

We will fix this soon and kindly ignore those who can not prove of what they write is true.

Again, I apologize that I was too ahead of posting the event — because we have a tight time frame schedule.

With regards to SM SuperMalls, I have a direct contact with my friend who is the head of their marketing and it was a last minute collaboration with them, please refrain sending them messages because we are in the process of organizing everything.

(We had an original sponsor that for some reason we have not met the conditions and since I don’t want to disappoint the fans in Iloilo, I personally produce the event, just to make things happen.)

She followed it up with posts of alleged email exchanges with Glorious Entertainment, conversations with the actor, and photoshopped statement using the Glorious Entertainment’s logo and social media card.

Viral

It was picked up by the FB page of Daily Guardian.  They posted on their FB page that they interviewed “producer Cleo L. Dimayuga” in which she confirms that Ji Chang-wook will have a fan signing in Park Inn Radisson.

Blogger Tatak Ilonggo also posted about it, making it more viral.

In another FB page trndy.ph, we found the supposed schedule of the “Sound of Magic” actor.  It was going to be from 9 am- 6 pm with only one hour break for lunch.  He will then have a show at SM Southpoint Grounds after.  Price tickets were supposed to be at P 5,000 each and will be available on SM Iloilo outlets.

Fans of Ji Chang-wook religiously took screenshots of these posts and sent them directly to Glorious Entertainment.  Hence, the agency took action.

Ji Chang-wook will hold his fanmeet on Nov. 6, 5 pm at the Mall of Asia Arena. The event is co-presented by Bench. “Reach You” tickets are available in SM Tickets where VIP tickets cost P13,300. The lowest tier available is the Upper Box and they cost P 4,045.

This is not the first time a person claimed to be close to a Korean star. In 2020, a certain Jack Cruz claimed to be a stylist to Korean stars including Lee Min-ho. He even granted interviews to bloggers and press.

Red flags

But here’s the thing.  The South Korean entertainment industry is built to deflect such falsehood.  They are always the first to announce any upcoming events and schedules. It is coordinated with the local producers who will typically post their own announcement a few minutes after.

Producers will have to sign strict and binding Non Disclosure Agreements that could spell stiff penalties for breaching.

There are always exemptions, of course. But if the announcement came from someone with not track record of producing any shows, then it’s a big red flag.

Celebrities also do not engage conversations casually with fans, especially in direct messages.  And honestly, Ji Chang-wook referring to this person as “Queen” or “babe” is also a red flag.  On top of the fact that he typically converses in Korean.

The schedule of Ji Chang-wook being too tight should’ve also been a warning sign.  No agency in their right mind will work their prized talent into the ground.
