We’re guilty of obsessing over Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin’s ads for Smart.
We’ve already listed the “Crash Landing On You” references that we found on two ads. We learned how effective Hyun Bin is as an endorser. So the next most logical thing to do is find out where they shot their ads.
They filmed the ads in Incheon, South Korea. The iconic buildings behind the stars were giveaways.
Most of us are familiar Incheon because this is where the International Airport is at. But the city is much more than that. It is one of the third most populated cities next to Seoul and Busan. It is home to some of the architectural wonders of Korea.
Hyun Bin’s ad opened with the skyline of the Songdo New City. And that impressive trapezoidal building is that of the Posco Tower-Songdo or Northeast Asia Trade Tower (NEATT). It is the tallest building in Incheon, fifth in South Korea and 149th in the world.
The building served as a background for dramas such as “Korean Odyssey” and “Are you Human?”
Songdo Convensia Building
A few blocks away from NEATT is the Songdo Convensia Building. This is where Hyun Bin stepped out of his car.
You might feel that the building is very familiar. Songdo Convensia, has after all, been compared to the Sydney Opera House. It served as a background for some scenes in dramas such as “Search: WWW” and “Boys over Flowers.”

Son Ye-jin’s ad was also shot in the same area. Her started with her cruising on the Incheon Bridge.
Her background is the Tribowl named as such because it looks like three bowls. The building looks like it sits on the water. It has served background for dramas such as “Legend of the Blue Sea,” “Cinderella and Four Knights” and “Dating Agency: Cyrano”.
