Super Junior celebrates its 19th anniversary. And that’s huge.
Kyuhyun, the group’s maknae (youngest), probably holds the record of the idol who lived in the dorm the longest. At 36, he might also hold the record for being the “oldest youngest” member of an active K-pop group that continues to promote together since their debut.
Super Junior did not get this far without the love and support of ELFs, which stands for Everlasting Friends, (group’s fandom). They have their share of haters, too.
The group has been receiving negative comments from people who think that K-pop is a one-size-fits-all box. They have been ridiculed because of their age.
Their fans have not been spared. ELFs have been called hags online. Stanning Super Junior is not for the weak. But instead of being offended, they were able to turn it around, embraced the term and wear the tag proudly.
ELFs have been calling Super Junior “Super Senior” or “Ahjussi”, even before the antis did. We know better because growing old is a privilege.
It represents the opportunity to see the world change and experience the ups and downs of life. The chance to love, explore, learn from mistakes, overcome challenges, and fulfill dreams. Aging should be worn like a badge. A proof that you did not just exist but contributed to the betterment of the world and the people around you. For ELFs, it’s equivalent to our journey with Super Junior through the years.
From a temporary project group to the Kings of Hallyu, Super Junior is a powerful reminder that the only limits in life are those we impose on ourselves. They were never meant to be ordinary and fit in those boxes. In addition, apart from the group’s achievements, each member is accomplished in their respective areas of expertise.
During Donghae and Eunhyuk’s 2023 fan meeting in Manila, one ELF shared the news about her graduation. Eunhyuk told her,
“Congratulations, although you have graduated from school, you cannot graduate from being an ELF.”
Here are 10 more stories of people who graduated, married, and succeeded in life. The teens who became hags, who spent their time, youth, and money on Super Junior. The sunbaes who will never graduate as ELFs, and still “can’t stop thinking” about Suju.
Jean Mirandilla,
ELF since 2015
Jean is currently in Japan studying for her PhD and to be closer to Super Junior because the group has many schedules and activities in the country. Traveling to South Korea is also more convenient. She said that Super Junior is the most relatable idol group, and as time goes by, her admiration for them grows due to their personalities and professionalism in their work.
Message to Super Junior:
To our Super Junior, I am always proud and thankful for being your ELF. You brought lots of memories and happiness to us. I am looking forward to seeing you on your 20th anniversary.
Trixia Lopez,
ELF since 2010
Trixia was a 17-year-old student when she became an ELF. Since graduating, she has built a stable career while still feeling a strong connection and loyalty to Super Junior because of their dedication and appreciation to their fans.

I hope to see you again next year! Here’s to your 30th, 40th, and 50th anniversaries!

She has remained a devoted ELF over the years, believing that loyalty strengthens friendships and creates an everlasting bond with Super Junior.
Message to Super Junior:
“We may be on different paths in life, but my love and support for Super Junior will always remain. Happy 19th anniversary!”
Sugar Gandamra,
ELF since 2009

Sugar went on a long hiatus as an ELF but returned as a lawyer! Talk about responsible fangirling and looking at the big picture.
Super Junior’s versatility, strong bond, and inspiring friendship and their affection for each other, or the lack of it when they are in a fight mode, on and off the cameras, are some of the reasons why she became loyal to the group.
Message to Super Junior:
To my beloved Suju, thank you for the 19 beautiful years. It was not an easy path for all of us but you endured it well. Congratulations, and here’s to “More days with you.”
Claude Ulita,
ELF since 2009

Claude is another ELF who went on hiatus as a fan but continued to listen to Super Junior’s songs because the group is her comfort zone, and their music is her safe haven. She returned as an active ELF in 2017 and has since checked off her bucket list of watching the group perform with 9 members and attending Super Junior D&E’s concerts in Japan.
Message to Super Junior:
Happy 19th anniversary, uri Super Junior! Thank you for continuously inspiring and motivating us through your songs for the past 19 years. We hope you always take care of yourselves as we celebrate more years together. Saranghaeyo!

For Fal, Super Junior feels like “home” – similar to being part of an extended family. The warmth shared among the members, their families, and their genuine care for ELFs create a strong sense of belonging. She’s grateful to the group for helping her gain friends. Fal feels happy when she sees her fellow ELFs achieve their dreams and succeed like Super Junior. Despite the many changes in their life, she and her fellow ELFs still giggle at the sight of the group of their favorite members.
Message to Super Junior:
19 years as an idol group is not an easy feat. Thank you, Super Junior, for continuously breaking barriers, paving the way, and inspiring others. ELFs are proud of all your achievements. We will continue to walk and run with you!
Karla Puzon,
ELF since 2008

Others can only dream about it, but this ELF had a Super Junior-themed wedding! From the bridal bouquet with a Sujubong, the bridal march, and the sapphire blue lightstick souvenir, Karla deserves a “Super Clap” for her love and dedication to Super Junior.
She cites the group’s incredible talent, diverse musical styles, lovable personalities, and genuine connection with ELFs, along with their kindness towards the people they work with as the reasons why she will be an ELF for life.
Message to Super Junior:
Happy 19th anniversary, Super Junior! Your music has brought joy and comfort to us ELF and your passion and dedication continue to inspire us each day. Thank you for being our “Shining Star” of love and togetherness; to more years “Walkin” with great moments together.
Momo Miralles,
ELF since 2007
PHOTO: Lee Donghae
Momo fondly recalls that when she and her fellow ELFs created SJU PH (Super Junior United PH), they never expected it to last for so long. They didn’t realize that their love for Super Junior would lead to a friendship spanning over a decade. She said it’s one of the best things that has happened to her and the other ELFs.
She feels a deep connection to the group, which has been a significant part of her childhood. Having loved them for nearly two decades, she appreciates how they continually reinvent themselves while remaining true to their roots. Their energy, stage presence, authenticity, humor, dedication, and sincere interactions with ELFs have solidified her loyalty. She appreciates how ELFs are treated like family. Like Ryeowook and the Suju siblings, she got married this year to her husband, who supports her passion for fangirling.
Message to Super Junior:
내 맘은 변함없이 늘 그때와 같아. Congratulations on your 19th anniversary! I hope you are all healthy and happy. Thank you for the laughter, the tears, the shared moments, and the memories we’ve created together. Hoping to have more days with you. See you all soon!
