James Thomas Smith, better known as Jamie xx, is one-third of the acclaimed group the xx and made his solo debut with the album “In Colour” in 2015. The album earned widespread praise, debuting at no. 3 on the UK Albums Chart, and securing nominations for the prestigious 2015 Mercury Prize as well as the Best Dance/Electronic Album category at the 58th Grammy Awards. Jamie xx is also known for producing and remixing tracks for global icons like Drake, Rihanna, Radiohead, Adele, and Alicia Keys.
Jamie xx’s second album, “In Waves,” dropped nine years after his critically-acclaimed debut album. The music came together during his DJ sets from 2021 to 2023, and is about his self-reflection and the inspiration he found during the COVID-19 pandemic. With “In Waves,” Jamie xx aims to express transcendence without falling into overly sentimental nostalgia. He connects with listeners through spoken word moments on an energetic dance floor, all while delivering tracks that keep the vibe alive. Ultimately, the album captures the lively spirit of an unforgettable dance party.
