As travel restrictions from the pandemic lockdown recede further in the rearview mirror, tourism hotspots continue to ramp up activities and attractions in order to entice visitors, seeking to return their attendance numbers to what they were pre-Covid. Hong Kong Disneyland is no exception. World of Frozen opened in late November of last year and proved an immediate delight with children and fans of the blockbuster movies, allowing families to explore Arendelle.
“Find Your Super Power: Battle for Stark Expo”
Their latest attractions spring forth from the Marvel Universe. Ringing in the Marvel Season of Super-Heroes are dual live shows being held in Tomorrowland. Both feature live performers. In the daytime show, “Find Your Super Power: Battle for Stark Expo,” the evil forces of HYDRA crash Stark Expo and conspire to steal Iron Man’s famous Arc Reactor. A gathering of your favorite Avengers including Iron Man, Spider-Man, Thor, Captain Marvel, even Star-Lord and Gamora from the Guardians of the Galaxy do battle with agents of HYDRA as they are cheered on by the crowd.
Things get even more explosive with the nighttime drone show, “Find Your Super Power: Battle in the Sky.” Drones with multicolored lights dance in the sky, forming icons of beloved Avengers as well as Dr. Arnim Zola, leader of HYDRA. Paired with LED screens and a climactic fireworks show, it’s a sight to behold that was enjoyed by the gathered families.
It’s a whole wave of new additions, including new and exclusive merchandise, toys, and apparel at the Stark Expo Shop. Everything’s conveniently located within Tomorrowland, where you can still check out the 3D motion simulator ride Iron Man Experience, featuring a ride in the Iron Wing over the skyscrapers of Hong Kong, and the on-rails light shooter Ant-Man and the Wasp: Nano Battle!, where you are shrunk down and can rack up points by shooting at different-value targets as you are guided by Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly reprising their roles as Ant-Man and the Wasp, respectively. When you’ve worked up an appetite, scarf down some Iron Man burgers at the Starliner Diner.
Marvel-themed treats
Situated at the Hollywood Hotel, one of Hong Kong Disneyland’s three in-resort hotels, you will find The Archivist, the gorgeous art deco restaurant that looks like it came straight out of Howard Stark’s heyday. Around the room you’ll find the Infinity Stones in glass cases, all surrounding the centerpiece: the Infinity Gauntlet itself.
Among the new menu offerings at The Archivist are several Marvel-themed treats: cocktails like the Synthezoid, Marvelous Punch, and Planet X, inspired by Vision, Captain Marvel, and Groot, respectively. There is also the Ragnarok medley, a party for the taste buds with boneless short ribs, flatiron steak, plus marrow on the bone, just how Asgardians like it. There’s a whole host of other new dishes, from oysters to salads, to new appetizers like Iron Toast and Potato Variants (from “Loki”). Best of all, they not only look great, they’re delicious.
Marvel Season of Super-Heroes runs only until June 10 but the Marvel magic continues at Hong Kong Disneyland. Starting Aug. 9, guests can stay in the brand-new Marvel-themed guest room at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel.
Disney is pulling out all the stops in making Marvel a huge presence in their parks, and if future attractions stick to this level of creative presentation, Hong Kong Disneyland can count on return engagements.
