Bestselling author Mitch Albom will be back in Manila in Feb. for a book signing tour with National Book Store. The “Tuesdays with Morrie” author will be at SM Megamall Event Center on Feb. 15 and at the Alabang Town Center Activity Center on Feb. 16. Each signing starts at 12 noon.

Albom is best known for a book of nonfiction, 1997’s “Tuesdays with Morrie,” which documented his visits to his teacher, Morrie Schwartz, in Schwartz’s last days. “Tuesdays” sold millions of copies, became a play and a TV movie starring Hank Azaria. Albom has since switched to fiction, becoming a successful novelist. He had a fondness for the Philippines and often included Filipino twists in books such as “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” and 2018’s “The Next Person You Meet in Heaven.”

He’s currently promoting “Finding Chika: A Little Girl, an Earthquake, and the Making of a Family,” which came out last year.

It brings him back to the beginning as it is a work of nonfiction, about a girl from earthquake-ravaged Port-au-Prince with an inoperable brain tumor whom Albom meets and brings to the United States for medical treatment. Like Schwartz, Chika does not survive, yet Albom finds himself transformed by the experience and inspired by the girl’s short life. The “family” in the subtitle is Albom and his wife Janine.

There will be 1,500 slots for each event on a first come, first served basis. Registration starts at 10 a.m. on both days.

The last time Albom was in the Philippines was in 2014. He did a series of book signing events in Manila and Cebu were thousands of his Filipino fans gathered. He also visited Tacloban which had been hit by Yolanda the previous year. On that visit, Albom, in partnership with the National Book Store Foundation, Inc., committed to setting up ten Donated Reading for Youth of the Philippines (DRY) Libraries in Leyte, Eastern Samar, and Iloilo.
